Riverkeeper’s mission is to protect the ecological integrity of the Hudson River and its tributaries, and to safeguard the drinking water supply of New York City and the lower Hudson Valley. CGP undertook a complete redesign of their website, from a complete visual graphic update to an extensive structural overhaul, unearthing vital information that was hidden from years of the site's organic growth. The organization produces an exceptional amount of in-depth research and news-making activities, previously buried under layers of clicks. Beyond exposing these layers of information-rich pages, the new information architecture also helps the organization highlight core messages, primary areas of interest, and calls to action that were formerly unnoticeable from a top level view. The restructuring also opened up new content areas, including the web version of a traveling exhibit also designed by C&G Partners, titled A Hudson River Journey. The look and feel draws from the Hudson River itself, including a large background photograph that changes with the seasons. The graphic system stems from the natural colors found in the Hudson and its surrounding landscapes, delicately supplementing the natural imagery used throughout the site. Complementary colors are used to draw the eye to action items. The overall design approach projects a primary theme of the organization – cleanliness – by allowing the website’s rich information shine through, yet remaining reminiscent of the area the organization is striving to protect. To keep the site continually fresh, C&G Partners also designed additional features that will be launched in future phased releases.
