  • As African American History Month comes to a close, we provide a sneak peek at our upcoming interactive documentary and website, People Not Property, designed and produced for Historic Hudson Valley. Launching this Spring, the project sheds light on the overlooked history of slavery in the Colonial North through personal stories of enslaved individuals. Scholars, artists, filmmakers, designers, and technical developers have collaborated for years to develop the project with several episodic-videos, engaging digital features interpreting primary documentation, and additional educational resources.

    "Slavery was not just a southern institution. It was an American institution. To understand slavery in the North allows us, as a country, to heal and understand why we are where we are today," according to the scholar, Dr. Daina Ramey Berry, featured in the project trailer.

  • Hurricane season 2018 has begun. For over four years, C&G Partners has been working with NYC Emergency Management to design Know Your Zone, the city's hurricane awareness campaign that encourages New Yorkers to find out which zone they live in. Running through this year's season (June 1 until November 30), the 2018 campaign includes new PSA videos of a diverse array of real New Yorkers who survived hurricanes and have been trained as volunteers to support NYC first responders. The interview-style videos were produced, scripted, filmed, and directed by C&G Partners in conjunction with Cruz Dann Productions.

  • The Stolen Heart Video Map has been honored with a 2018 DIGI Award in the Best Content: Ambient Category. The 3D projection-mapped video table was the centerpiece of an exhibition at the Leo Baeck Institute that illustrated Jewish expropriation during the Third Reich. The map mixed topographic and time-lapse elements with stylistic color tints and a custom musical score to create a somber yet inspiring mood. The DIGI Awards are one of the only industry award programs that recognize the "outstanding integrators, content providers, and product manufacturers focusing on digital signage and DOOH (Digital Out of Home) markets."

  • C&G Partners exhibit design and digital installation for the San Diego History Center's Junípero Serra Welcome Center was covered by Kate Heller in the SEGD (Society for Experiential Graphic Design) article The River Runs Through it. "Placing the river as the protagonist in the story became especially fitting because you can see the river and most of the watershed from the site,” says Keith Helmetag about the design concept. “It’s an interesting way to tell what might seem like divergent and, in some cases, controversial stories together with one outlook.” Read more at SEGD.

  • Jonathan Alger shed light on disrupted storytelling at the 2017 SEGD Xlab, a conference about digital innovation and the future of experience design. The session featured C&G's digital designs that demonstrate how the studio incorporates new models of user-engagement. The session that was followed by a panel discussion and Q&A. The studio also hosted an SEGD Xlab studio innovation tour for students and industry professionals. This year’s Xlab theme—Experiences in the Era of Disruption—showcased how disruption is impacting experiential graphic design. It included presenters from Living Map, Civiq, DailyDOOH, Float4, Lab at Rockwell, Reality Interactive, Gallagher & Associates, WeWork, Intersection, and Potion, Tessellate, Two Twelve, and others.

  • Just in: C&G's Stolen Heart Video Map for the Leo Baeck Institute was selected as a finalist for the SEGD Global Design Awards 2017. The 3D-printed, projection-mapped tabletop video is the centerpiece of the exhibition “Stolen Heart: The Theft of Jewish Property in Berlin’s Historic Center, 1933–1945,” which was on view at Leo Baeck. Topographic and time-lapse elements mix with stylistic color tints and a custom musical score in the animated video portion of the experience, which is projected onto a 3D-printed, 1:1500 scale, historically accurate model of Mitte, Berlin’s center of culture, commerce and government.   • The Smithsonian's newest museum in Washington, D.C., the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC), made history when it opened this weekend as the only national museum exclusively dedicated to African American culture. C&G Partners is thrilled and overjoyed about this milestone for the Museum. We are also humbled to have played a small role, creating the digital Guestbook and Member Honor Roll that helps visitors leave something of themselves behind when they enter or leave. NMAAHC is the latest example of this digital guestbook project: there is a story behind the evolution of the idea, and a history of other installations leading up to this one.

  • We know from experience that in a citywide emergency, New Yorkers need safe places to gather. Our longtime client, NYC Emergency Management, just launched the Share Your Space Survey to identify local spaces that can support emergency operations and outreach events, and we made them a "time lapse drawing" to help explain. The spot follows the illustrator's hand as it builds sketches of whole scenes, in a twist on the typical whiteboard video. Each individually photographed frame creates an illusion of movement that is clear, engaging, and easy to understand.

  • KCRW-LA's blog on design and architecture, DnA, featured the design thinking behind the exhibit 'A Path Appears' at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles. C&G Partners collaborated with wHY Architecture, and fabricators Cinnabar, both in Los Angeles, on this innovative and experimental project designed to act as an "open-source, interactive prototype" for social justice.
