  • Alongside a new visual identity for our second decade, we're thrilled to formally announce a new firmwide mission for C&G Partners: Design for culture.

Several years in the making, this it the result of analysis of our own work over the first ten years of our studio, reflection on the world today, and internal discussion of how we can contribute. We have also been inspired by the academic field of cultural and social anthropology. C&G Partners will remain a multi-specialty creative studio, but now with a refined purpose. We are now dedicated to design for culture — from cultural organizations to organizational culture.

We were the first to use the word "multispecialty" to describe a design studio. Now, we are the first to dedicate ourselves to design for culture.

Here is the way we now describe what we do:

We believe in the untapped value of culture, the institutions that enrich it...

  • As we begin our second decade, today we launch a redesign of our own visual identity. Our new logotype is intentionally straightforward, highly legible, makes better use of space, and is designed from the start to be a digital native.

  • Heartfelt congratulations to the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC), opening to the public this past weekend in Washington D.C. with the help of many dignitaries and luminaries. The long-awaited NMAAHC is the only national museum exclusively dedicated to the documentation of African American experience, and C&G Partners is privileged to have played a role. Our Guestbook and Member Honor Roll for the museum gives visitors a new, digitally integrated way to leave something of themselves behind.

  • You still have time to submit your idea for the excellent Sappi Ideas that Matter grant, due next Friday, July 15th. Sappi's 17-year-old grant program produces great things, and C&G Partners is proud to be a past winner. For this Ideas That Matter season, we're posting images of the entire book we made with our past grant.

Working with America's leading wildlife artist Deborah Ross and writer Alison Jolly, we created a bilingual (English and Malagasy) illustrated children's book to increase lemur awareness and literacy in both Madagascar and abroad. The folktale NyAiayAko (Ako the Aye Aye), follows a juvenile aye-aye (a type of lemur) named Ako living in a Madagascar forest. The 2005 edition of the book, conceived and designed at our predecessor firm, was so successful that UNICEF created a second special grant for a follow-up version of an additional 300,000 copies, to be distributed to every reading age student on the entire island nation.

Enjoy this post (our longest ever) of our entire illustrated book "Ako the Aye-Aye".
