Developed by C&G Partners in collaboration with HHMI, “Beautiful Biology” is a rich, immersive online resource that provides diverse interaction methods, from motion to in-depth scientific explorations and advanced zoom techniques. Utilizing cutting-edge UI techniques from museum and collection websites, this project extends these interactive learning methods beyond the museum sphere into the realms of science and education.

Designed to engage and inspire awe and curiosity in biology and life sciences, this immersive resource offers diverse ways to interact and explore the wonders of the biological world. From the simple enjoyment of stunning visuals to in-depth scientific explorations, “Beautiful Biology” provides a range of engaging features and interaction methods to explore the wonders of the biological world.
The “Visual Spectacle” feature allows for an endless stream of captivating images in motion, providing an entry point into further scientific exploration. A visual interface categorized by “cell,” “body,” and “nature” enables users to explore the collection intuitively yet systematically. Image collections are powered by meaningful filters to help users narrow down their search and browsing results. Individual image records guide the users from basic information to the most intricate scientific terms, enticing users deeper into the science behind the imagery. Hotspots on images guide users to inquire into hidden aspects of the organisms on view, and an IIIE viewer offers the opportunity to zoom into these magical images, continuing their journey through these awe-inspiring wonders of the biological world. All pages promote endless exploration by offering related information and a “Surprise Me” feature, randomly shuffling images from this vast and spectacular collection.
Utilizing imagery sourced from HHMI and the broader scientific community, this project is quickly becoming a trusted resource for museums, science centers, public libraries, and classrooms while illuminating fundamental principles of the biological world and inspiring people from all walks of life with the incredible beauty and complexity behind biological research.
